BA in Translation

I have studied translation and editing at the Higher Institute of Language sin Cairo, Egypt to hold my BA in Translation and Editing in June 2007 when I started my career as a full-time professional translator one week later.

I always consider the moment I obtained my MITI, as a Qualified Member of ITI after a very long and a tough test in 2015, as one of my best moments. Considering the very few number of MITI translators in my language pair (English into Arabic), I am always proud to highlight it.

Best Practices for the Best Quality Control’s Process

I always follow the best practices for an effective testing and QA implementation. I start with analyzing the files to put the best schedule to meet the client’s turnaround and expectations. I consider the time specified for reviewing and linguistic check prior to delivery. I rely on a reviewer and an Arabic expert to review my translation before I hand it back to my clients. This means that my translation is always ready to deliver to the target audience. I do a final check by accepting or rejecting the changes that have been applied using track changes. I make a QC with Xbench and finally a spellcheck and reading the output on its own.

Flexibility and Varieties

It depends on what the client needs. Everything is adaptable according to the client’s needs. The turnaround, the CAT tool, the process and the services needed. The client will never be forced to use a certain tool or process but I can customize the process according to the clients’ needs. This is why I have been so careful to have the most popular CAT tools and the latest typesetting software. It does not stop here; I am a quick learner. I can learn the software provided by the client easily and promptly. I can offer solutions when needed and tell the client what works in a certain situation.

Building a Team of Experts

Some of my regular clients ask me in some cases to build up a team to meet the output they need for a certain project. Setting up a team happens on a case-by-case basis. I have my own office where everything is ready and set. The place is equipped with workstations, broadband internet connection, PCs with all necessary software installed. I only collaborate with translators who hold a BA degree in languages and/or translation and highly experienced translators with at least 5 years’ experience in a specific subject field. I can provide samples, CVs and everything needed to ease the selection process when the client wants to select the members themselves. I review the material myself, so I am responsible of the final output. The team usually have a linguist experience who ensures the best quality possible.
